PERFUME- “we all stink”

Ever wondered why Ur dog can follow U when U left home without saying good-bye to them? Of course we know… it’s because we stink… yes it is, believe me…

Lately I watched a movie, it’s entitled “Perfume”, a perfectly well shown in visual and audio, dramatic scenery, beautiful cinematography and adequate amount of dialogues. Played by Ben Whishaw as Jean-Baptiste-Grenouille, an orphan that was brought out in the world in a very harsh way.

It’s based on a Novel by Patrick Suskind, set in France in the 18th Century. A story of a man with unique talent, who could smell everything in the world, water, rock, wet rock, wood, dried wood, grasses even a frog under water… even better, a human from a distance.

From a perfumer master, he learned that there are 12 types of perfume but there is another divine perfume that legend tells it could bring someone in paradise, the 13th formula. From the perfume master he learned how to separate scent of roses then he begun experimenting in his own. Realizing that the most precious scents are coming from a human body he became so desperate. Grenouille starts to collect scents from young women in his own way. He collects them in small bottles until he succeeded collecting all 12 and combined the last one. With the combined collected scents he knows he makes an entire town down to his feet, though they know he’s guilty for murdering those girls.

Though Grenouille succeeded in creating the best perfume in the world to give him the power to do whatever he wants, from making the King of France kiss his ass or making the Pope believe he’s the true messiah by just writing a letter with a scent of his perfume, he cannot get the true thing he ever wanted… LOVE. Simple emotion yet he never experienced, loving and be loved. ‘Till he decided to end his life with that bottle of perfume.

A heart-breaking reality was drowned by the tragic truth that Grenouille may have the best nose in the world yet he cannot smell his own scent, no scent at all. A unique identity human has.

Sad but true, we are always looking for something we don’t have by taking it from others. Some people found them, some never felt pleased and lost themselves on their own greed.//:alvin
